Hi friends today I m here with a traditional South Indian recipe prepared from Horse gram / kollu / vulavalu / hurli.
Horse gram is a miracle super food and is widely consumed as a staple diet in the southern parts of India. Horse gram is the most protein-rich lentil found on the planet, it is also rich in nutrients and has plenty of minerals – phosphorus, calcium, and iron.
Raw horse gram is particularly rich in polyphenols, flavonoids and proteins, the major anti-oxidants. In other words, it can keep your body young and vibrant! What’s more, scientists from the Indian Institute of Chemical Technology have found that unprocessed, raw horse gram seeds have the ability to reduce high blood sugar following a meal, by slowing down carbohydrate digestion and reducing insulin resistance. This makes it an extra diabetic-friendly food! Traditional medicinal texts describe its use for asthma, bronchitis, leucoderma, urinary discharge, kidney stones and heart disease. Ayurvedic cuisine also recommends horse gram for persons suffering from jaundice or water retention. Rheumatism, worms, conjunctivitis and piles are also said to quail before the power of horse gram.
Coming to the recipe Horse gram was first soaked and allowed to sprout. Then it was dried by spreading out on a piece of cloth for 2 days and subsequently dry roasted. Roasting gives a nice aroma to horse gram.
In addition to horse gram I have also added red poha and oats (dry roasted) which adds punch to an already healthy recipe.
I bet you will definitely like this recipe. Please share with your friends and family and also enrich me with your feedbacks. Thank you I take leave now…Happy cooking
